Meet The Duggars! ;)

It amuses me to realize that the "world" has such a narrow conception (and often misconception) of the "large family" thing. You are either "normal" (meaning one or two kids) or you must be famous. I'm telling you. We are graduating from the "are you a daycare?" questions, and now, especially since the Walkers moved in, we are getting: "Are you the Duggar family?" :) Yep. That's what they are asking! Yesterday a vacuum salesman came to the door and was talking to Mama while the kids played outside. "We could do a demonstration for you!" he offered. Mama smiled. "See all the vacuumers I have out there?" she asked, sweeping her arm in the general direction of the kids. The man popped the question now. "Yeah. Actually, my partner wondered if you were that family from TLC." (the Duggars) Mama had to disappoint the man and tell him that he was not meeting a famous person at all! :) We have gotten this one time before: at Busch Gardens on the bus coming back to the parking lot. But this time it was Uncle Lon, Aunt Heather, and the NY cousins in addition to us oldest cousins here. The group of people sitting near us were watching us for awhile, and then one of them spoke up: "Are you the Duggar family?" (or something like that.) Hee-hee. I mean, really? Must every family with more than the trendy amount of kids, who have a big house, whose girls wear skirts and have longish hair, and who drive a big old van be the Duggar family? We love watching their show, we'd love to meet them, and we greatly enjoyed their book, but it cracks me up that people assume such things! I am sure there are families with more kids out there, and I am sure we all have one thing in common with the Duggar family: we must sometimes wonder: "Do we belong where we live, or should we really be in a zoo with a plaque telling all the whys and wherefores thereof?" :) But like I have said before, I get a secret satsifaction out of keeping people guessing. There aren't many people who have been twice mistaken for a famous family! ;) -Rachel

  2. Haha! I love big families! =] It's fun to see peoples reactions by my mom just saying "I had 7 kids". But really, our family isn't even THAT big!!! Unfortunately, I do not like the Duggar's show. It gets on my nerves :)

  4. Once when there was just three of us a lady came up to us in the mall and said, "Are all these yours?" :). I think that was hilarious!

  5. Oh the joys of a large family!! It is fun to see people's reaction. I had a man ask me if I was part of the Duggar family the other day. I had told him that we had a large family, and that my name was Joanna. I guess it reminded him of them because they have a lot of J names. lol! You are right Rach, it is fun.

  6. That's crazy! How can anybody think that you were the Duggars! They obviously don't watch the show, you don't look a thing like them! None of you do. Yeah, we always get weird reactions too with our big family, and ours isn't that big! It is amusing. I always tell people "big familys have more fun!". And we soooo do. I like the Duggar family, there book was really good, but as Hannah said, I'm not big on the show, strictly because I think that it is a little dull to watch. Ooh, somone made me so mad the other day though, because he, in so many words said that the Duggars werew just after fame! And he said that they called the show "19 kids and counting" and he was like are they planning on having more, I mean a woman's body can only take so much. I WAS SO MAD AT HIM!! haha, I just think that that is worldy thinking, God made us to have children! Anyway, I will stop rambling now, this is long enough to be a post, instead of a comment.

  7. My thing is when people think that Rachel and I are married when we have some of the little kids shopping or something.[Rachel will marry someone who people won't have to ask if they're married because of all the flowers, etc., he'll be giving her :) Or when they think I'm the second-oldest [I don't know, maybe Rachel is more mature], but the crowning grimace was when Rachel and I had the kids at the store and when a big group of people walked by she handed Grace to me and said, "go see daddy honey"! 8) we have fun though. ;)

  8. Haha! That's so funny! No one has every mistaken us for the Duggards but they are always asking us if we watch the show (and the such and such plus 8 show). I don't know why they think just because we have a "big family" we watch shows about "big families"...huh. That and if we are a daycare. A man actually came to our door once wanting to drop off his little girl for the day! Ha! Poor man we had to burst his bubble and tell him that we weren't a daycare.:)
