It might as well be Swing! :)

For some time I have wanted to try Swing-dancing. No, of course it doesn't have anything to do with my Dean Martin/ Frank Sinatra pandora-stations. ;) Have any of you tried Swing? I can just imagine it...

...Oh yes. But I don't know how to swing-dance in the slightest. I would need to be taught. Anyone wanna take me on as a mercy-mission project? ;)

Dreams of Matrimony ;)

I love having dreams! Unfortunately, I don't have that many anymore, but when I do, they are certainly sure to be a doozy! Throughout my life my dreams have mostly centered around cougars, bears, kidnappers, or getting married. The last catagory is the most amusing. I dreamt the other night that one of my friends was getting married to a man named "Bob Parsons". This man came from England. His profession? A Partridger. Which, her father explained to me, is exactly what is sounds like: a man who kills partridges. Her father had objected to the marriage two years before, since he wasn't sure if one could make a living and support a family if he was only a "partridger". But I suppose dear Bob had shown himself faithful, and had bought Joanna a perfectly hideous ring. It took up half her hand and was made of huge purple flowers with gaudy false diamonds in swirls around the side. I found myself falsely praising it's beauty....hmmm.
Then there was that time years ago when I dreamed that I had to marry a young man who had allergies, and looked like Mr. Incredible's boss. Dad was forcing me to marry him, and then, on the wedding day, had me in tears because he wouldn't change out of his painting shirt and stop fixing Mama's bed that for some reason had fallen apart.
Another time I dreamt that I was on a really boring honeymoon in Hawaii where all we did was drive up and down hills covered in palm trees and hibiscus in a stuffy car while Mama and Dad followed a bit behind in a convertible. Strange huh? Well, this was rather a dull post, but I must go do Saturday chores to prepare for church! -Rachel

Now It Has To Be Underland??? Creeps!

Okay. I may make some people mad here. But I have a big question, that has been stewing around in my mind for about a week: Wasn't the Disney Alice In Wonderland weird enough?
I am plagued by dozy, smoky, creepy catipillars and grinning cats that won't go away when I think of that movie. Also those very strange twins "tweedle-dee and tweedle-dum"
I met those creeps at Disneyland as an innocent 9 year old. They stole our hats. They ran around and wouldn't give it back. They demanded a hug from Sarah. They are crazy.
Then, wasn't that pinch-faced, flamingo-wielding queen of hearts angry enough in the cartoon version? For pity's sake! Now they make her a cross between a clown and a dwarf! And, nothing can displace the really strange fact that you are stuck in a stinkin' dream, that is creepier than any of your nightmares you've ever had. The confusing thing, is that you would willingly get stuck in someone else's nightmare for 2 hours! That you'd pay money to get scared out of your wits by real looking mad-hatters, and cats, and.... oh yeah! What is up with that white rabbit? During the whole movie I had an urgent desire to pick him up by his ugly ears and make him wait for whatever he was in a hurry for. He must have been rabid, because he had pink eyes! Anyway! That is my opinion of the whole "Alice In Wonderland" thing. And one last thing, why did the new version have to make Alice kill the "jabberwocky" from the poem? I can't even understand the words in the poem! How can anyone kill something that no one is sure what it is?

A Day Full Of Excitement (If I choose to see it that way!)

This morning something really strange happened to me. I was asleep, and had three dreams full of "something exciting happening today". One was that we were having a out-and-out young adult night, one was that I got an invitation for a barn dance in Florida this coming up December, and another that we got 10 comments and a bunch of reactions on our blog! So here I am and wake up, and I can't for the life of me remember what day of the week it is, what I'm so excited about, and everything is foggy. Then I realize it is Friday, and a school day. But then I heard God say to me in a quiet, amused way, "Don't you think the little things I put in your day are exciting? Can't you find enjoyment in the tasks at hand?"
So before even hopping out of my bed this morning, I was blessed with a challenge for today: to find it as exciting as any of the things I dreamed about above. To notice the way He works through each moment. To stop and laugh with Abby, and to tickle Gracie, to amuse Sarah with my algebraic moanings. To delight in making meals for my family and sweeping up mud from a productive pair of boots that is worn by a veyr special little boy who is always going, going, going.... these are the things I should delight in instead of wishing for excitement. Of course not that exciting this are bad! I am the first one to squeal with anticipation when we get an invitation to anywhere, (provided it is somewhere we want to go ;) but I think it is important for us all to realize that duties don't have to be drudgery. Only our ridiculous, shallow minds convert the priviledge of making bread with freshly ground wheat to a chore aligned with cleaning the boy's bathroom! Well, anyhow, that is just a brief idea for today! Now I'd better be off!
