The Young Adult Night

Last night our family hosted a get together for all the kids from our home church and a couple of others ages 13 and up. We'd been looking forward to it for a long time and were excited when it was finally here! Yesterday morning we had breakfast and then did our usual "Saturday chores" which include dusting, cleaning bathrooms, mopping, vacuuming, and a couple of others. Dad and Daniel mowed and bush-hogged the yard while the rest of us tidied-up inside. Then around lunch time Daniel, Rachel and I went out to the store for a couple of last minute things. When we got back there was only a half-hour left until people would be arriving. Rachel and I counted out candy corns we were using for a guessing game, we set up a few other games, and then took the long way to the mailbox, hoping to use up some time. Rachel insisted on walking down the road a ways to pick these pink flowers she'd seen earlier, and she ended up coming in the driveway behind the first guests. When most everyone was here, we played four games in volleyball that probably lasted an hour and a half. I was on the winning team each time :) When we tired of volleyball, we organized a game of kickball and played til dinner. Mom had set up a nacho bar- Yum!

Each guest had been asked to bring a baby picture of themselves, so after dinner we spent an hour huddled around the table trying to figure out who was who. Sarah (It's Rachel now :) and Tim W. tied with getting 20 out of 22 correct. But I still guessed right on a picture of a baby with a bunch of medical tubes and things under a light. (It was Oliver A.)

When that was over we did the candy-corn guessing game. Joseph W. was awarded the prize. Namely, taking home the jar of candy.

Then we did a couple of fun acting games and a skit. Our Daniel, Aaron K., and the other Daniel did lip-syncing to The Cheeseburger song, and called themselves The Bonus Brothers. It was supposed to be a silly parody on the Jonas Brothers, who none of us have listened too. Well, there was that Disney Music video that nearly made us sick!

The night was supposed to end at 9, but we had sundaes, and then went out to do some Civil War dances. We finally got some music (von Trapp Children) and that helped keep the rhythm a bit, but it was still a lot of confusion and galumphing for the Virgina Reel. (Keep in mind that we were doing this on the garage parking-pad and several of us girls were barefoot so we were all trying to keep off the gravel just beyond.

We had a wonderful time, and should do it again soon! Thanks to everyone that came! Everyone was so cute as a baby! If you came, leave a comment and tell us your favorite part and what you thought of it as a whole! It was such a blessing because there was a 90% chance of rain, and God held it off till everyone left! Well, we'd better leave off here!

ps. our camera hasn't been doing well, so we didn't get many if any pictures on our camera! Sorry! Wish we could!

  1. Thanks for hosting such a fun event! I enjoyed it so much. It is hard to say which thing I liked most, I think I liked the variety of the different things we did.

  2. Rachel and Sarah,

Elliott and Oliver came home and told us all about it! I'm sorry I couldn't make it. We hope to have a "young adult gathering" at our farm in November and hope your family and some of the other families from your church could possibly carpool and make the trip. :)

I'm glad I found your blog. I look forward to reading it!

  4. We had a great time! Thank you so much for inviting us! I don't know which part I liked best either, everything was fun! We're still talking about it. For days after a young adult night, Katie and I drive poor Hannah crazy by reminiscing while we're supposed to be milking!:)

  5. Hey! In response to your question I really enjoyed playing volleyball, of course I also was on the winning team every game so that might have skewed my opinion a little. Thanks again for having us over.
