"Now Prepare Yourself Like a Man!" :)

The Genesis account of creation is absolutely wonderful. All of God's word is. But I think maybe my favorite part of the Old Testament related to the creation of the world can be found in the latter part of the book of Job. In Genesis, you do hear the story of creation, and it is true and good. But it is like reading a biography about someone else. In Job, you get to hear the story of creation from God's point of view. For several chapters the Lord describes it to Job...in this book of the Bible, you can also see the Lord's sense of humor....
"Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said:
"Who is this who darkens counsel by words without knowledge? Now prepare yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer Me. Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding. Who determined it's measurements? Surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it? To what were it's foundations fastened? Or who laid it's cornerstone, when the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy? Or who shut in the sea with doors, when it burst forth and issued from the womb; when I made the clouds its garment, and the thick darkness its swaddling band; When I fixed My limit for it, and set bars and doors; When I said, this far you may come, but no farther, and here your proud waves must stop!"
And it goes on...for four whole chapters. It is a marvelously detailed and beautiful description from the Creator, of the times when He was creating this world. I love the verse about the morning stars singing together and the sons of God shouting for joy. Isn't it amazing to think about the joy all of creation felt as God made it? Anyway, I've just been reading in Job recently, and once more found it a very interesting book of the Bible! :) -Rachel

Pardon Me if You Actually Like These Things! :)

Why? Why? Maybe I am just weird and old-fashioned but I still must ask why?!?!? Someday we will all cover our eyes, shake our heads, and blush, just as guilty of strangeness as people were when they thought leg-warmers were fashionable. Do you know what I'm talking about? I'll give you a clue. Tweens wear them up and down both arms. They are stretchy. They are neon colors. They are...*drumroll* SILLY BANDS!

Silly Bands are tools of destruction, (if you begin to shoot them) and people trade them like baseball cards. Oh boy. So far I am not guilty of owning them. *phew* But I am still trying to figure out this mania for odd rubber shapes...I mean, sometimes I can't even tell what the blasted thing is supposed to be! Maybe they are just fun. But when I was little and wore rubber bands on my wrists, everyone told me they would cut off my circulation, and besides- they pinched the hair on my arms! :D I know lots of people who wear them. My own sisters in fact! (though not in extreme quantities :) Maybe I should start a War effort of saving rubber for the soldiers or something... ;) I think I'll make some people mad with this, so pardon me if you wear Silly Bands! :D Or maybe, I should just...get some myself. No chance of that! I once put on one of Sarah's, and it looked so foreign on my wrist that it felt like I was looking at someone else's arm. So I don't wear them. Oh well! Like I said- someday, everyone will remember these alongside aviator glasses, (which are MAKING A COMEBACK! :[ ) leg-warmers, big hair, hangy-down jeans, (THOSE WILL GO OUT!!!!!) and puffy leather jackets! So there! :D -Rachel

Random Bullet Points Post

Inspired by Abigail over at Tweety Tweets, I decided to do a "Random Bullet Points" blog post. The idea of this is to simply give an overview of some (generally) unrelated things. So here we go

I am thinking.....

  • Is Daniel suffering from a Black Widow spider bite, or an MSG allergy?
  • What can I do to ease his discomfort? :/
  • About what a blessed time we had with Mrs. Traver and her 11 kids during their stay with us while the hurricane passed over their area.
  • I need to write some letters
  • About the unexpected happy little blessing Dad gave me in taking me out to lunch "just because" and not making me drive there! :D
  • That Paul in the Bible, and Charles Dickens' both use very long sentences sometimes, but use them in a very effective way. Not sure that is a wise comparison, since the Lord spoke through Paul, and not Dickens... :/ The main point was, famous authors can use run-on sentences! :)
  • There was no inheritance under that table Abigail! :[
  • Autumn is coming fast!
  • I want to get some quail to raise, because their eggs are SO adorable, (and they themselves are too) and they sell for 14 dollars a dozen!!! :O
  • Bleak House is turning out to be a page-turner! :)
  • Dad is out bringing home pizza for dinner
  • We should not have stayed up till 2 a.m. with Mrs. Traver talking, covering all topics from very strange "granola" goat-sellers to the Parental Rights Amendment
  • Gracie is not a baby anymore :'(
  • I am ready for a dance so I can wear my Scottish dress!
  • God is so marvelously good to me
  • and I don't deserve it!
  • But Christ loves me, and died for me!
  • Amazing Love, how can it be, that Thou my God would die for me? :) -Rachel

A Tribute To Okra

Written For Sarah:

"A Tribute To Okra"

"The horridest plant in the garden I think,
Must be the Okra- it truly doth stink!
It smells like as squashbug who's wearing perfume
That comes from the air of a long sealed-up tomb.
The plant is prolific, I cannot deny,
The main little problem just seems to be "Why?!?"
When stewed, Okra looks like the muck in our ditch!
(Besides the wee fact that the fuzz makes you itch!)
The furriness seems to delight peoples' tongues,
(As long as it doesn't go straight to their lungs!)
It grows at the rate of ten miles a day,
At a stand by the road, I doubt anyone'd pay.
Besides- at our house, we're ready to choke-ra,
So please, orphans, please, let us donate our Okra!"

Sarah passionately despises okra, but our thrifty Mama will not see it wasted. Thus the "donated okra" line, which may seem irrelevant otherwise! :D -Rachel
