A Tribute To Okra

Written For Sarah:

"A Tribute To Okra"

"The horridest plant in the garden I think,
Must be the Okra- it truly doth stink!
It smells like as squashbug who's wearing perfume
That comes from the air of a long sealed-up tomb.
The plant is prolific, I cannot deny,
The main little problem just seems to be "Why?!?"
When stewed, Okra looks like the muck in our ditch!
(Besides the wee fact that the fuzz makes you itch!)
The furriness seems to delight peoples' tongues,
(As long as it doesn't go straight to their lungs!)
It grows at the rate of ten miles a day,
At a stand by the road, I doubt anyone'd pay.
Besides- at our house, we're ready to choke-ra,
So please, orphans, please, let us donate our Okra!"

Sarah passionately despises okra, but our thrifty Mama will not see it wasted. Thus the "donated okra" line, which may seem irrelevant otherwise! :D -Rachel
